Substance over slogans: the Tribune digs into the general’s platform.
The Lewiston Tribune covered Sarah Zabel’s campaign swing through Moscow and Lewiston, where the retired Air Force major general met directly with voters in Idaho’s 1st Congressional District. The Tribune’s reporting goes deep on substance — exactly the kind of coverage independent candidates deserve and rarely get.
Among the highlights: Zabel’s argument that Congress’s devotion to party identity has left it unable to function, her fiscal case that repeated tax giveaways at the very top are driving the national debt, and her strong defense of keeping public lands in public hands — including support for legislation that would block the mass sell-off of the lands Idahoans hunt, fish, and live on. The Tribune also notes she fielded voter questions head-on, including on the toughest issues of the day.
A three-decade Republican who put country over party when the party left her, Sarah Zabel believes Idaho is an independent state ready for an independent voice. Based on the crowds she’s drawing, she may be right.
