Musk and Trump To Fire

at Department of
Veterans Affairs
Billionaire Elon Musk and the new Trump administration are making cuts all across the government right now. And those cuts include thousands of veterans. With many more on the way in cities and towns all across America.
News broke that Trump and Musk plans to cut 83,000 jobs at the Department of Veterans Affairs. 83,000! Yes. That’s a real number.
And nobody is fighting back.
1 in 3 federal employees is a veteran. And half of all veterans are independent.
From the Department of Veterans Affairs, to the Pentagon, to the 9/11 First Responders Health Support Program, to Park Rangers, thousands of independent veterans are getting fired by nasty and rude emails sent by hacks in Washington who’ve never worn the uniform and don’t care about our service.
The Republicans are OK with it. And the Democrats can’t stop it.
And nobody is fighting back for veterans and holding the line.
And other veterans groups are fighting back too:
But we are. Independent veterans are fighting back for our own. And for all Americans who serve in government and put country over party. Independent Veterans of America is the place for independent veterans from all across the country to rally. We will fight to protect our own. And we will support and elect our own to fight back for our fellow veterans—and for all Americans.

Additional Background
According to the DOGE administrator Elon Musk’s own platform, Grok, the DOGE efforts have been responsible for the following:
As of February 28, 2025, precise figures on the total number of veterans fired by the Trump administration are not definitively established in official government releases. However, based on available data and estimates, the number varies depending on the source and context.
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announced on February 13, 2025, that it had dismissed over 1,000 employees as part of a broader federal workforce reduction initiative. While the exact number of veterans among those fired wasn’t specified in the VA’s official statement, veterans make up approximately 30% of the federal workforce. Posts on X and some news reports, citing estimates from Democrats on the House Appropriations Committee, claim that nearly 6,000 veterans have been fired across the federal government by late February 2025. This figure is derived from the broader context of mass layoffs affecting tens of thousands of federal employees, with veterans constituting a significant portion due to their high representation in federal jobs.
For example, one report highlighted the firing of over 1,000 VA employees, including veterans like Luke Graziani, a 20-year Army veteran let go from the Bronx VA hospital, and Andrew Lennox, a Marine veteran fired after less than two months at the VA. Another source estimated that of the 38,000 federal employees fired by mid-February 2025, around 6,000 were veterans. However, these numbers remain estimates, as the Trump administration has not publicly confirmed the exact count of veterans affected.
The lack of precise, official data stems from the ongoing and rapid nature of the layoffs, led by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) under Elon Musk’s influence. Critics, including Democratic lawmakers, argue that the firings disproportionately impact veterans, given their 28-30% share of the 2.3 million civilian federal workforce. Meanwhile, the administration asserts that these cuts, saving over $98 million annually at the VA alone, are redirected to improve veteran services, though no breakdown specifies how many of those fired were veterans.
In summary, while estimates suggest around 6,000 veterans may have been fired across federal agencies by February 28, 2025, this figure is based on unofficial sources and proportional assumptions rather than a confirmed total from the administration itself. The true number could be lower or higher, pending further transparency.
We will update this regularly.
